Every prescription is carefully reviewed by our expert optometrists at our South Florida lens lab, ensuring accuracy and the best vision correction possible. Whether you need blue light blocking lenses, progressive lenses, or prescription polarized sunglasses, we’ve got you covered.

How Do I Read My Prescription?

Understanding your eyeglass prescription is key to ordering the right prescription lenses. Your eye doctor will provide a prescription that typically appears in horizontal rows, either printed or handwritten. Hereโ€™s what each value means:

  • OD (Right Eye) & OS (Left Eye): These indicate the values for your right and left eyes.
  • Sphere (SPH): Determines whether you need correction for nearsightedness (minus [-]) or farsightedness (plus [+]).
  • Cylinder (CYL) & Axis: These values correct astigmatism, ensuring sharper vision.
  • ADD: Found in bifocal lenses or progressive lenses, this value enhances near vision for presbyopia.
  • Pupillary Distance (PD): This crucial measurement ensures the optical center of your lenses aligns with your pupils for precise vision. If your doctor didnโ€™t include it, you can measure PD yourself using a pupillary distance ruler.

Your eyeglass prescription is typically valid for 1-2 years, depending on state regulations. If youโ€™re unsure how to read an eye prescription, Twinspecs is here to help! Our experts ensure that your custom lensesโ€”whether they are blue light blocking glasses, transition lenses, or prescription polarized sunglassesโ€”are made with precision for the best vision correction possible.

Why Is PD Important?

PD ensures that lensesโ€”whether for single-vision, blue light blocking glasses, progressive lenses, or prescription polarized sunglassesโ€”are customized to your unique vision needs. A misaligned optical center can cause discomfort, eye strain, or blurry vision.

How Long Is an Eyeglass Prescription Valid?

Eyeglass prescriptions are typically valid for 1-2 years, depending on state regulations. If your prescription is expired, schedule an eye exam before ordering new lenses.

Need Help?

If youโ€™re unsure how to read an eye prescription or how to measure pupillary distance, Twinspecsโ€™ experts are here to assist. Simply upload your prescription, and weโ€™ll ensure your custom lenses are crafted with precision.

How do you locate my pupillary distance (PD)?

Your pupillary distance (PD) measures the space between your pupils and ensures precise lens alignment for clear vision. Itโ€™s often included in your eye prescription, but if missing, you can measure it at home using a pupillary distance ruler. For accuracy, Twinspecs’ experts can assist in determining your PD when processing your lens replacement order.

How long does it take to receive my glasses?

Most glasses are crafted within 24 hours, with delivery taking 3-5 business days. Once your order is shipped, youโ€™ll receive an email with a tracking number for real-time updates. Our team carefully inspects every pair before shipping to ensure perfect quality and accuracy. If you have any concerns, our customer support team is always ready to assist, making sure you get the best experience possible!

Where are the lenses being manufactured?

All our prescription lenses, including blue light blocking glasses, progressive lenses, and polarized sunglasses, are crafted in our advanced laboratory in South Florida. This allows us to ensure high-quality lenses, fast production, and prompt shipping across the U.S. and Canada.

Should I get high-index lenses?

High-index lenses are an excellent choice if your prescription is stronger than -/+4.00. These lightweight and thin lenses enhance comfort and aesthetics, preventing the โ€œmagnified eyeโ€ effect common with thicker lenses. Theyโ€™re ideal for prescription glasses that balance style and clarity without added bulk.

What are the differences between all the materials available for lenses?

Plastic (CR-39) Lenses

  • Excellent optical clarity and affordability.
  • Best for low prescriptions but can be thicker for stronger ones.

Polycarbonate Lenses

  • Highly impact-resistant, ideal for sports glasses and safety glasses.
  • Thinner and lighter than plastic, but may show more chromatic aberration.

Trivex Lenses

  • Combines lightweight comfort with high impact resistance.
  • Offers sharper optics compared to polycarbonate, making it a great all-around choice.

High-Index Plastic Lenses

  • Perfect for high prescriptions, providing thinner, lighter lenses.
  • Minimizes lens thickness for a sleek, aesthetically pleasing look without compromising clarity.

Each material serves different needsโ€”whether itโ€™s durability, clarity, or a thinner profile, weโ€™ll help you find the best lenses for your lifestyle and prescription!

What type of lenses does Twinspecs offer?

Twinspecs offers a wide range of high-quality lenses tailored to your needs. Our collection includes blue light blocking lenses for digital screen protection, photochromic lenses that adapt to changing light, and polarized sunglass lenses for outdoor glare reduction. We also provide anti-glare coatings, high-index lenses for stronger prescriptions, and UV protection across all options to keep your eyes safe and comfortable.

Can I use my contact lens prescription to order glasses?

No, you canโ€™t. A contact lens prescription is specifically designed for contacts and differs from an eyeglass prescription. Glasses prescriptions require unique measurements, such as sphere (SPH), cylinder (CYL), axis, and pupillary distance (PD), which are not included in contact lens prescriptions. For the best vision and fit, always use a valid eyeglass prescription when ordering glasses.

What is Anti-Reflective Coating, and Is It Worth It?

Anti-reflective (AR) coating is a specialized treatment applied to eyeglass lenses to reduce glare and reflections. It improves visual clarity by allowing more light to pass through the lenses, which is essential for tasks like computer use, night driving, and reducing blue light exposure.

Benefits of Anti-Reflective Coating:

  • Helps minimize reflections on the lens surface, especially useful for night driving glasses and reducing blue light glare during screen time.
  • Enhances contrast and improves vision in low-light conditions.
  • Makes lenses nearly invisible, enhancing your look and allowing others to see your eyes clearly.
  • Reduced Eye Strain and perfect for those who work long hours in front of screens, as it minimizes reflections and eye fatigue.
  • Smudge and Water Resistance. Many anti-reflective coatings are combined with scratch-resistant lenses, hydrophobic layers, and smudge resistance for easier maintenance.

Is It Worth It?
If you spend time working at a computer, driving at night, or if you’re sensitive to glare, anti-reflective coating is highly beneficial. For those wearing blue light blocking glasses or prescription glasses with blue light filter, this coating also enhances your experience by reducing eye strain and improving overall comfort.

What are photochromatic lenses?

Photochromic lenses, also known as transition lenses, automatically adjust their tint based on light exposure. These lenses darken in sunlight for UV protection and quickly return to clear indoors, offering seamless adaptability for all environments.

These lenses:

  • Provide UV Blocking & Blue Light Protection. Shields eyes from harmful UV rays and reduces blue light exposure, enhancing eye comfort.
  • Convenience: No need to switch between prescription sunglasses and regular glassesโ€”one pair does it all.
  • Available in different tints, such as gray and brown, to match your style preferences.
  • Ideal for Light Sensitivity: Great for those sensitive to bright light, reducing glare and improving outdoor comfort.

Things to Consider

  • Traditional transition lenses may not darken much inside cars due to UV-blocking windshields. For better performance, choose specialized lenses.
  • While modern photochromic lenses transition quickly, some may take a minute or two to fully adjust.

Perfect for active lifestyles, these lenses combine vision correction and sun protection, making them an excellent choice for those frequently moving between indoor and outdoor settings.

How to Clean Your Lenses and Keep Them in Top Condition

Maintaining your lenses properly enhances clarity and extends their life. Whether you have blue light blocking glasses, progressive lenses, or transition lenses, these cleaning tips will help protect your eyewear from damage and ensure long-lasting performance.

1. Use a Gentle Cleaning Solution

Avoid harsh chemicals like ammonia or vinegar. Instead, use a mild dish soap mixed with warm water or a commercial eyeglass cleaner to clean your lenses. These solutions protect the lens coatings, including anti-glare and scratch-resistant coatings.

2. Rinse Before Cleaning

Rinse your glasses under lukewarm water to remove dust and particles that can scratch the lenses. This step is especially important for high-index lenses and polarized sunglasses.

3. Microfiber Cloth is Key

Always use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe your lenses. Avoid tissues or paper towels, which can leave scratches or lint on the surface.

4. Clean Frames and Nose Pads

Dirt and oil often build up on the frames and nose pads. Use the same mild solution and a soft cloth to clean these areas thoroughly.

5. Dry Carefully

Let your lenses air dry or gently pat them dry with a clean microfiber cloth. Ensure no water spots are left behind to maintain the lens clarity.

6. Avoid Excessive Pressure

Use light pressure when wiping your lenses to avoid damaging coatings or bending the frames. Prescription blue light glasses and multifocal lenses are particularly delicate and require careful handling.

7. Store Glasses Properly

When not in use, store your glasses in a sturdy protective case to prevent scratches and dust exposure. This is vital for progressive lenses and photochromic lenses, which are sensitive to environmental conditions.
